The ski town of Zakopane (Eastern Europe Part 4)

Our journey from Hungary continued into Poland. Of which, we stopped over at a resort town in the Tatra Mountains known as Zakopane. Zakopane is a popular ski resort for people in the central part of Europe considering that it is just a few miles from the Solvak Border and that things in Poland are relatively cheaper compared to the rest of central/eastern Europe.

What struck me most entering the town was definitely the wooden Polish houses which are unique only to this town.

We also took a tour up to highest point of Zakopane via the cable car.

Being a freak, i had to double check the safety of the cable car, and i was reassured by the tour guide that the cable car was installed by the very same Swiss company that did the cable car for Mount Titlis in Switzerland and that it was completely safe and secure.

As we were ascending, it started to snow!!
It was our lucky day!!

I couldn't resist picking a snow fight with my hubs..

It was freezing on the peak!!
 Brrr....
On the way down, i spotted a cottage...

It has always been my dream to live away from the bustling city and sometimes dream of becoming a hermit too. A warm fireplace, curled up in my couch to read all the books i want! ahhh... what a luxury!
The bliss of the peace surrounded by nature.

What i also liked in particular about Zakopane is her unique little wooden church.

Before entering the church, we were greeeted by the smiling face orchids! Have seen these in pics but not up close like this! They were gorgeous!

Wood being a good insulator of heat also kept the church really warm, it was nice just sitting quiet in the church for a moment.
I really enjoyed Zakopane a lot because we were simply surrounded by Nature at its best and it was really scenic as the Mecure Hotel we stayed at provided such comfort, and having breakfast with such a view was just comforting.

And i simply loved the variety of food in Zakopane, be sure to try:

1. The waffles

2. The fresh fruits (especially strawberries!)
They were not too sweet which were to my liking!

3. The local crepes, which were slightly different from the french ones!
Had to order a strawberry one too!

4. Lody Swirl!
It was different from the normal swirl ice creams, as this was thicker and heavier in texture.

5. The Cheese
We were wondering what these were and thought they were bread.
But at a closer look, the lady at the store was kind enough to let us try a slice. It was actually cheese!
There were so many different kinds to choose from, goat cheese, salted, unsalted etc.
It tasted very natural and we learnt that these are made by the local people from their cattle.
It is really not expensive for such a big chunk of cheese.
Next up, our journey continues to Krakow, Poland!
