A story of Buda and Pest in Hungary (Eastern Europe Part 3)

From Slovakia, we made a 6 hour coach ride to Budapest and upon arrival, were treated to a Hungarian Folklore Dinner in Budapest.

The dinner venue was at a mansion.

The evening started with a gyspy band playing hungarian classics.

followed by a folk dance...

we were served a 3 course meal with wine and after which, the exciting part of the evening came when my hubs was picked to go up stage!

His first ever solo performance on stage, he was made to do some folk dance steps...
it was hilarious!!

we were nevertheless very proud of our representative from Singapore!

It didn't just end there. There came the server of wine. An insistent one!
He carried his wine decanter with a very long glass funnel and started squirting wine into the mouth of his guests. Really skillful i must say!

Even i was not spared! He was extremely insistent that we get a serving of wine from him.
Pretty strange experience having wine squirt into your mouth in front of at least 50 pairs of eyes!

The next morning the tour continued with a city tour of Budapest. Before coming to Hungary, i didn't know that Budapest is actually made up of two cities, Buda and Pest. They were connected by bridges. The Buda side was more hilly, and Pest was the side with flatter land and there were more happenings on the side of Pest.

What Buda looks like...
The top of the Gellert hill stands the Liberation statue
The art noveau bridge which connects the two cities.
The city tour started with a visit to the Hero's Square...

A museum modelled after the Greek temple...

Brought my pet Smiggles along... (the furry one if you are wondering :-P )

We continued to visit the 13th century St Matthias Church which is a gorgeous one, cladded with diamond pattern roof tiles and gargoyles laden spine, which are unique to the refurbished gothic church.

When i walked into the church, i was overwhelmed by the beautiful murals on every wall of the church.

It is such a masterpiece and a treat to the eyes!

Next to the St Matthias Church stood the Fishermen's Bastion which was a great lookout for the paranomic views of the city.

LOL. Amusing myself...
We continued our walk to the Hungarian "Istana" and Buda castle.

Similar to the Buckingham Palace, they had a display of the change of guards which the tourists enjoyed!
Another view of the city..

I love how the trees grow...

Buda Castle...
Other cathedral in the heart of Pest...

The tour ended with a chartered cruise ride down the Danube River.
It was really relaxing and lovely.

we had a cup of coffee on board while we enjoyed the views of Buda and Pest. The old historic buildings each had a story of their own, so rich in history.

The building which stood out most in Budapest would have to be the Hungarian Parliament Building.

To date it is the most expensive and most laborious constructed building in the city.

The city streets of Pest...

Do also remember to try this Hungarian cake when in Budapest.
The dough is so soft and it is traditionally coated with cinnamon and sugar though other choices of coatings are available.

Though it was pretty big for one person, it was not enough because it tasted so good!
and i had to of course get my gelato fix...
Day 5 of the tour continues as we journey into Poland!
TBC...
