Art x 3!

July-August seems to be the month for great art works.

x1- Andy Warhol: 15 mins eternal

the thing which i enjoyed most about the exhibition would be Andy's section on his pencil and pen sketches. It was quite amazing that just with a pen he could come up with so many lovely sketches.
And the other was the Silver Clouds factory with the helium balloons, wish i could have some pictures but unfortunately they didn't allow cameras inside :(

The exhibition sure did bring back some good memories of my visit to Andy Warhol's exhibition on tour in Munich many years back as a student :)

x 2- Hermes the Gift of Time

The venue was an exciting one since i didn't get a chance to visit the Tanjong Pagar Railway station before it officially closed...
so housing art in that location i thought was something really quite different.
A sundial with a print of the Hermes scarf
This was one of my favourite rooms, it had all the different things we could do at the moment in time to enjoy the PRESENT MOMENT in time, written in many different languages...

These were some of my favourites, will do some time.,

It really made me think that there are so many experiences we could experience in a moment in time in our lives but little do we see the beauty in it.
We have been so busy in our lives that we have forgotten to smell the flowers by the side of the roads and lost that essence of immersing ourselves in the moment caught in a traffic jam, to look at the sky, the trees outside the window, instead we have chose to focus on our negativity of cursing the jams on the roads and taking the opportunity to be frustrated and annoyed.

And this made me stop to think where have our imaginations gone to?
Washed away by the harsh reality of life?

This i thought was interesting, from a fish bowl with water, it made many different arrays of light...

I loved this the most not only because i'm a crazy cat lover, but almost because it is made up of many different patches of leather, and i always think how can anyone create something so lovely out of bits and pieces?!!
i want one for my wall!!

The world is changing, cats and birds will be friends one day, i believe.

And the representation of a tree on the ceiling, love the colors dont you?

The gift of time really made me ponder a lot about the gift of time God has given to each of us and how we are fully making use of it or not. Everyone has an approximately equal amount of time but yet the choices we make to use our time varies, and it really reiterated the point about how precious time is, and how time should be used to do meaningful things to make us grow and be more fulfilled people.
Somehow this exhibition did remind me of the movie "In Time" with a similar idea of what time means.

x3: Void

This was an interesting experience for me, experiencing live art performed by my very own cousin Benjamin at NAFA.
This is my first time experiencing his work and also interesting for me to know the performing artist whom i grew up with...

i remember taking more pictures than these but i wonder where they went to?!

I thought the performance was rather abstract but it really started to make me think when he started using the mirror to reflect things around us. I think he was probably trying to evoke the idea of reflecting on people and things around us, be it small or big. To really reflect upon most importantly ourselves... and using the mirror to reflect, he created beautiful shadows of things and i thought that was really lovely because different people at the performance saw different things from the same shadow.

He then went on to blind fold a statue of a man and started using a bill to clean or brush the statue's head and i was wondering what he was trying to make us see...
And what i reflected upon was the fact that in society today, man is too blinded by money, all he thinks about is money because that is all that is in his head. And i start to tie that back to the first part of his performance about reflection.

I start to think that maybe he was trying to point out to people about how we should widen our perspectives about life by starting to reflect upon the things around us instead of being blinded by money which makes people very narrow minded and deluded.

Actually im quite happy that there are more and more art exhibitions and events going on in Singapore because art makes people think.

And sadly i think people do too little of that these days....
